The SDO Studies Panel
The SDO Studies Panel help to meet the challenge of commissioning high quality research relevant to NHS needs by assessing proposals originating in a researcher-led or responsive workstream. This Panel gives the academic community the opportunity to respond to an open call for proposals and to identify research questions aimed at addressing those gaps in knowledge.
As well as assessing areas of importance and need to the NHS within the SDO remit, it will be those applications judged to have reached an NHS importance threshold that will be short-listed for full proposal submission to the Commissioning Board. The Panel's remit also includes assisting with the development of commissioning briefs for open calls.
How the SDO Studies Panel works
The role of an SDO Studies Panel member
The SDO Studies Panel member's role comprises two main functions:
To refine open commissioning briefs to be advertised to the researcher community
To assess applications received for NHS need and importance
The SDO Studies Panel will work closely with the Programme Executive Group (PEG), which is chaired by the Programme Director and includes the chairs of all three advisory panels.
