The Programme Executive Group (PEG) selects a number of priority research themes for development by the NETSCC, SDO Secretariat, the Priority Areas Panel and the SDO Studies Panel. It also reviews commissioning briefs prior to advert, and makes final decisions about funding, following recommendations from the Commissioning Board.

The role of PEG includes:

• Identify priority areas, for which commissioning briefs will be developed by the advisory panels
  
  
• Approve commissioning briefs to be advertised
  
  
• Advise which projects recommended for funding by the commissioning board should be supported by the programme
