NHS Evaluations Panel launches first call for proposals
The first call for proposals by the NHS Evaluations Panel was launched by the NIHR SDO programme yesterday.
The NHS Evaluations Panel will help meet the challenge of commissioning high quality research relevant to NHS needs. This panel considers the need for scientific evaluations of specific initiatives and innovations arising from developments in the NHS.
For this first call (EV2001) we are particularly interested in proposals to research or evaluate “promising innovations in healthcare delivery” in the NHS in England and Wales. We are seeking innovations which are likely to have the following four characteristics:
- have a substantial potential benefit which could be applied more widely in the NHS with greater efficiency and productivity, improved quality and safety, or better patient experience;
- being piloted, tested or implemented in a number of healthcare organisations;
- involve the application of ideas or technologies introduced or transferred from other countries, sectors or settings
- have not already been well explored and tested through research
We anticipate spending about £3 million per year through this funding stream once it is well established with two calls for proposals each year. Although there is no formal cap on this call, the programme has in mind that projects are likely to cost up to £500,000. The application process will be in one stage, with full proposals being invited.
Applicants are asked to submit full proposals for the above call by Thursday 5 November 2009 at 1pm.
Update 05/11/09: Please note that call has now closed
